About
We make films with purpose at their core: stories that matter, told so that people want to watch them. Our films are shot with human beings at their heart.
We are not a traditional studio ignoring what is coming, and we are not an AI content studio. We sit deliberately between the two. The result is cinema that could not have been made before.
Entertain
Visual storytelling is the most powerful way to take people on a journey. When a film holds you, you go with it, and that is when an idea can truly land.
Educate
We work with leading scientists, thinkers and academics, and the people living these stories, so audiences leave having learned something new.
Inspire
We make hopeful films. Not naive, hopeful. Every film is built to leave audiences with a sense of agency, a reason to act, and the belief that positive change is possible.
The Purpose Movie Studio is based in the US and the UK, producing documentaries and feature films for audiences worldwide.
The founder
Fagun Thakrar trained as a doctor at University College London, specialising in neuroscience, before she became a filmmaker. Her work as an actor and director spans Hollywood and international cinema, and she has been honoured on BAFTA's Newcomers Program and as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader. She holds five degrees, including an MA in Classical Acting from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, an MA from the University of the Arts London, film directing in the United States, and an MBA from the University of Cambridge, where her research led her to found The Purpose Movie Studio. She is currently directing the studio's feature documentary, Superpower: AI In Our Lifetime.

Intelligence beyond our own is arriving in our lifetime. This film is about how we, as humans, will meet the future.
Superpower is the hopeful film about AI. Through the voices of the pioneers building it and the people whose lives it is already changing, the film asks what happens to the human mind in an age of machines that think, and how we make sure AI makes us stronger, not weaker. Augment, don't replace. Stronger minds, not weaker ones. Purpose and connection at the centre.
